I was just about to order a 39mm Explorer, but I had a premonition that the Milgauss Z Blue was on the way out and ordered it on Friday last week. The rest is history. Just got it yesterday.

The new 40mm Explorer is definitely on my radar from the new releases (that and the 42mm Ti Yachtmaster). I've been looking at 39mm Mk 2 Explorers for a while but haven't pulled the trigger. I thought I'd make a quick comparison shot to see the differences (new on the left, old on the right).
I have the 40mm .. Wider Bracelet and Clasp. Gloss Dial. Anti-Reflective Crystal. 70 Hour Reserve. however .. its actually still 39 mm . Some people are annoyed by the Explorer wording moving to the top portion of the dial .. However . that goes back to the original Explorers placement so for nostalgia its the correct place for it. _____. The Explorer was meant to be a 36mm watch, the 39 seems like it was a ten year experiment that didn't pan out. The narrow taper feels small at first, but you get used to it after a while, and the clasp itself is about 16mm wide. Proportionally, the changes work .
the 39mm explorer, to me, always seemed like the worst iteration (both Mk1 and Mk2) of the explorer line. A combination of different parts, rather than an intentionally designed and proportioned watch like the 124270 and the new 40mm version seem to be.

Ultimately, this comes down to get what you like , but I think you lose a lot of what makes an Explorer an Explorer with the 39mm.
